Sean Jensen (Pioneer Press) reports Minnesota Vikings cornerback Antoine Winfield may be close to a new contract extension. Winfield’s agent, Ashanti Webb, is coming to Minnesota to close the deal.
Winfield, 32, is in the final year of his six-year $34.8 million contract.
The terms of the deal are not known. We speculate the deal will be a back-loaded three or four-year contract extension with an average annual salary of $7 to $8 million.
The Pro Bowl cornerback had one of his best seasons last year, and played a large role in Minnesota’s sixth ranked defense.
