Second baseman Freddy Sanchez will not be wearing a Minnesota Twins’ uniform this year. The Pittsburgh Pirates traded Sanchez to the San Francisco Giants for highly-touted pitching prospect, Tim Alderson.
The Giants paid a very steep price, because Alderson is the no. 4 prospect in the Giants’ organization (according to Baseball America).
There was no way Twins’ General Manager Bill Smith was going to give up a prospect as good or better than Alderson. Alderson is equivalent to prospects’ third baseman Danny Valencia and pitcher Jose Mijares in the Twins’ system.
