Charley Walters (Pioneer Press) reports point guard Ricky Rubio told the Minnesota Timberwolves shortly after the draft that he is prepared to play in Minnesota next season if he and his agent can change the buyout with his Spanish DKV Joventut team. This report confirms a previous report from Spanish media saying that Rubio accepts the possibility of playing for the Timberwolves.
According to Walters, his buyout has reportedly increased recently from $6.6 million to $7.7 million. The number is likely to go down, now that Rubio’s attorneys withdrew their lawsuit for salary arbitration.
This report by Walters suggests we never had much to worry about in the first place. The only “problem” seems to only be his buyout situation with DKV Joventut, and many signs (such as this one) are suggesting the two sides will come to an agreement.
