Negotiations Under Way With Knicks?

Marca.com is reporting the Timberwolves already knew Ricky Rubio wouldn’t play there when they picked him, and negotiations are under way to trade him to the New York Knicks.  This website reported earlier that Rubio’s father threatened the point guard phenom would play in Spain the next two years.

This latest report slightly confirms an earlier report by the New York Post and ESPN, saying the Knicks planned on calling the Timberwolves in regards to Rubio.

It is very possible that Marca.com has inside information on whether the Timberwolves and Knicks are legitimately negotiating.  The website clearly has access to Rubio’s family and most likely, people close to the situation in Spain.  Rubio’s agents and possibly Rubio himself are probably relaying back news and updates to his family and friends.

The challenging part would be for the Knicks are to give up enough for the Timberwolves to let go the promising point guard.  Nate Robinson and David Lee have been mentioned as candidates in a possible trade.  Robinson would bring in another point guard even smaller than Jonny Flynn (Robinson 5-9, Flynn 6-0) and David Lee plays virtually the same position as Kevin Love, Al Jefferson and Craig Smith.  Knicks first round choice, Jordan Hill, can be considered a candidate, but he’s just another power forward.

To be quite frank.  I don’t think the Knicks have the right assets to pry Rubio away from the Timberwolves.  The Knicks may need to get a third party involved.
